take memories, leave nothing but footprints and full hearts

get packing

You’ve got your plane ticket. Your surf lessons are booked. Now it’s time to start packing.
This might be your 100th tropical destination, but we still believe Siargao will be like none other.
The tight island community is making an effort to reduce waste and create awareness towards responsible tourism,
and we encourage you to ride the same wave.

what do I bring?

No matter how long you’re staying, you don’t actually need that much. Trust us. We’re not light packers!
There are several wash-and-fold laundry services that provide a quick turn around on the cheap. While you’re waiting, you can patronize one of the local ukay-ukay (flea markets) or artisan shops with locally made Siargao swag. Here are a few ideas of things you will want to bring with you…and things you’re better off leaving at home.

bring along

• Swimwear. Duh.
• Dry bag to prevent water damage on boat rides/rainstorms (these happen without notice)
• Reusable water bottle/straws
• Reef-safe sunscreen
• Rainproof jacket/windbreaker
• Light sweater or long-sleeve shirt
• Flip flops/waterproof sandals
• Underwater camera/waterproof case for electronics
• Tampons/feminine products
• Basic medical needs kit
• Awesome vibes

leave at home

• Single-use plastic containers and non-reusable hard plastics (shampoo bottles, etc)
• High heels or hard-to-wash clothes
• Thong swimsuits or other super revealing clothes – the community is open-minded, however, out of respect for local culture, be mindful
• Wetsuit (welcome to paradise!)
• Roller suitcases (not a must but it is easier to travel around with a backpack)
• Wax, leashes, guards – there are several surf shops on the island that carry international surf brands as well as quality, locally-made surf supplies
• Stress and bad vibes

have extra space?

If you’re interested in helping provide resources to the local communities and want to bring some things along to help groms and their families in need, reach out. There are several organizations on the island that are looking for volunteer carriers to help transport various goods to the island – a little goes a long way!
On behalf of Grom Nation, we help collect and distribute surf boards (we’ll take your broken ones, too!), school supplies, newborn baby and mama essentials, dental hygiene products, vitamins and solar powered lights.
